Widespread Beginner small daily choices, ongoing
Decide who would already have the thing. Then be that person now, in small daily choices.
Instead of chasing an outcome, you study the kind of person for whom that outcome is normal, then adopt their habits, standards and self-talk ahead of the evidence. The goal is that the result arrives as a side effect of the identity, not the other way round. In practice the leverage is in choosing behaviours small enough to be undeniable: the person you are becoming answers the email the same day, or walks in the morning, or does not apologise for their rate. Each time you make one of those choices you are casting a vote for the description, and the description is what everything else follows from. It works slowly and unspectacularly, which is why people who like it tend to like it for years.
A blend of self-image psychology and habit theory; the same idea appears in "Atomic Habits" as identity-based habits.
This is the most conventionally supported technique in the library and the least mystical: behaviour change research has a lot to say about identity, habit cues and self-perception, and none of it requires the universe to cooperate. The honest limit is that identity moves outcomes only through actions, so an identity you adopt and never act from is a mood. It also has a failure mode worth naming: picking an identity that is really someone else’s, imported whole from a person you admire, and then wondering why none of the habits stick.
Daya’s daily audio is written in the voice of the life you are already living once the thing has happened, which is the same move this technique makes: describe the person, then act from the description. The evening journal and its one mood word are the other half: a place to see whether the small choices actually happened today. Neither will make the choice for you.
Most techniques on this page ask you to hold a vivid scene of your future in your mind. Daya does the holding for you: a new guided audio journey every day, written around the life you are actually building, in scenes specific enough to feel like memory.
