Speak one genuine appreciation, then another, faster, until the mood carries itself.
A momentum exercise done out loud: start with one thing you honestly appreciate, add another before the feeling fades, then another, building a spoken chain that snowballs over two to five minutes. Unlike a gratitude list, the rampage is live and continuous; the speed is what generates the shift. Saying it aloud matters, because pace is the whole mechanism and silent gratitude drifts. It usually starts embarrassingly small (the mug, the fact the heating works) and the small entries are the correct opening, since the point is to get moving rather than to be impressive. Around ninety seconds most people notice it stops being effortful and starts running on its own, which is the part the name is describing.
An Abraham Hicks process for building emotional momentum.
Gratitude practice is one of the better-studied things in this library, with reasonable evidence for mood and sleep, though the effects reported are moderate and the research quality varies. The rampage variant specifically has not been studied; its distinguishing feature is momentum, which is plausible but unmeasured. The sensible caveat is the one that applies to all gratitude work: on a genuinely bad day, being told to appreciate things can land as dismissal, and the Emotional Guidance Scale from the same tradition is the more honest starting point when appreciation is out of reach.
Daya’s evening journal is the written, slower relative of this: a couple of lines and a mood word rather than a spoken chain. The two work well end to end: a rampage out loud while you make dinner, the entry when you sit down. Nothing in the app talks back, so the out-loud part stays yours.
Most techniques on this page ask you to hold a vivid scene of your future in your mind. Daya does the holding for you: a new guided audio journey every day, written around the life you are actually building, in scenes specific enough to feel like memory.
